Building an inground pool on Long Island or redoing your backyard is exciting, but if you’ve never gone through the process before, it can also feel overwhelming. What comes first? How long will it take? What happens if there’s a delay? These are the questions we hear from nearly every new client.
At Specht-Tacular Pools, our job isn’t just to build beautiful outdoor spaces. It’s to make the entire experience feel smooth, clear, and enjoyable. With more than two decades of hands-on experience and a completely in-house build process, we’ve refined every step to deliver what we promise, with no guesswork, no finger-pointing, and no loose ends.
Here’s exactly what to expect when you build with Specht-Tacular.
Step 1: Consultation & Site Review
We start every Long Island pool project by getting to know your property, your goals and how you want to use the finished backyard:
- How do you use your yard now?
- What do you want it to feel like when we’re done?
- What features are must-haves, and what’s optional?
We’ll take detailed measurements, photos, and assess everything from slopes to sun exposure so we can make smart design decisions from day one.
Step 2: 3D Design & Proposal
Next, we create a full-color, scale-accurate 3D rendering of your project so you can see your future backyard before we break ground. You’ll be able to explore angles, finishes, materials, and layout options that reflect both your vision and our structural expertise.
We’ll walk you through the plan, talk materials, finishes, and timelines, and provide a detailed proposal so there are no surprises. Once you approve the design, we’re off to the races.
Step 3: Permits, Planning & Scheduling
This is the part that slows most contractors down. Not us. Because we’ve worked with building departments throughout Suffolk and Nassau County, we understand the permits, surveys and approvals commonly involved in Long Island inground pool construction and how to keep the process moving.
While we’re waiting on permits, we’re ordering materials, scheduling crews, and making sure everything is prepped for a smooth start. You’ll receive a clear timeline with milestones and expectations, plus updates every step of the way.
Step 4: Construction Begins
Once permits are approved and construction can begin, our in-house team manages the major stages of your inground pool installation, including excavation, framing, plumbing, masonry, liner installation, electrical, lighting and final finishes. We do not outsource our core construction work to a collection of separate subcontractors. That gives us greater control over scheduling, communication and the quality of the finished pool.
During this phase, you’ll see your backyard take shape week by week. And because you’re assigned a dedicated project manager, you’ll always know who to call, what’s happening next, and how to reach us if you need anything.
Step 5: Final Walkthrough & Handoff
When construction is complete, we walk you through every feature of your new pool or outdoor space. We’ll teach you how to use and maintain your equipment, review your warranty details, and make sure every finish, fixture, and feature meets your expectations.
We don’t pack up until you’re completely thrilled with the result. And if you have questions later, we’re still just a phone call away.
How Long Does It Take to Build an Inground Pool on Long Island?
The timeline for an inground pool project can vary depending on the design, permits, property conditions, weather, materials and the amount of surrounding patio or landscape work involved.
We provide a project schedule once the design and scope are established and keep homeowners updated as construction progresses. Permit approval is often one of the variables outside a pool builder’s direct control, which is why planning and paperwork are addressed early in our process.
What Makes Our Long Island Pool Construction Process Different?
- Everything is in-house. No subcontractor blame games. We take full responsibility.
